Bud Powell "Reets and I"

"No one could play like Bud; too difficult, too quick, incredible!"

Thelonius Monk

"Bud is a genuine genius" Duke Ellington

"Bud is a genius" Charlie Parker

This composition appears in the album The Amazing Bud Powell vol. 2 with George Duvivier on bass and Art Taylor on drums.

This piano solo is an excellent example of the be-bop vocabulary, the foundation of contemporary jazz piano music.

For the left hand use the “Bud Powell” voicings that basically consist of outlining the chord using the root and third alternating with root and seventh staying within the realm of the octave. For more information you can read chapter 17 "Stride and Bud Powell Voicings" from The Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine (Seer Music Co.)

Hank Jones "It's Me, O Lord"

This is my transcription of the spiritual "It's me, O Lord" also known as "Standing in The Need of Prayer". This track is part of the Galaxy "Tiptoe Dance" album recorded in Berkeley, CA between June 29, 1977 and January 21, 1978.

Hank Jones is personification of the elegance and sophistication at the piano, a truly great musician.  On May 16, 2010 Mr. Jones was promoted and now he is absent in the body but face to face with the Lord (In the words of Colonel R.B. Thieme)
